This is a little strange. Firstly, can you please look in the:

IDE tools menu -> Extensions and Updates...

dialog, and see if VA is listed as an installed extension. It is possible VA is installed, but disabled. If so, can you enable VA from this dialog?

If this doesn't help, can you please look and see if you have:

IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Extensions and Updates -> Load per user extensions when running as administrator

turned On or Off. If this is Off, does turning this On and restarting VS2013 make any difference?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
But I am sorry to say that VA is not listed in the tools->Extensions and Updates.
Also " Load per user extensions when running as administrator" option is already turned on.

I tried reinstalling, but no use.
Please help.

When you run the VA installer, is the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2013" check box enabled or disabled? Is this checked or unchecked by default?

How are you running VS2013? Are you running this as the current user, or loading the IDE as a different user?

Are you passing any odd command line switches to the IDE on start up?

Hello,
1. During installation the specified check box was selected by default. I dint changed it.
2. VS2013 is running as Administrator.
3. No command lines passed.

First up, can you please look in the directory:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\Extensions
and see if any sub directories have been created? If so, they will have "random" names, hashed strings, but please look inside any directories you see, and see if any of them contain "va_x.dll".

This will tell us if VA was actually installed, even though it is not showing up.

Next, can you please open your %TEMP% directory and delete all of the files and directories that you are able to delete. Now re-run the VA installer, just for VS2013, and see what happens. I doubt this will make any difference, but hopefully there will be one or more files with the name:

VSIXInstaller_*.log

in the %TEMP% directory. If so, these may offer a clue as to what is happening here.

I checked in the folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\Extensions. There was no folders and no files named va_x.dll.
Cleared %TEMP% and tried installing again for VS 2013 alone. Still no result.

You can send the files in using the following form. Please paste the URL of this topic to the "your request" field so we can match it up.

Alternatively, you can install directly inside of Visual Studio. Search for Visual Assist at:
Tools -> Extensions and Updates -> Online

and then click download. Does it make any difference?

Yes, licensing works exactly the same way when you install through the extension manager.

No, your 2013 license will not be accepted when you install using Extensions and Updates.

Support for Visual Studio 2013 RTM was introduced in Visual Assist Build 2007.
This requires software maintenance through 2013.11.15. You can check your date in the license.
However, fixes related to later VS2013 updates were added later.

Can you please try installing the latest VA to see if it makes any difference?
You will be granted a 7 day trial while you can decide if you want to renew your maintenance or want to downgrade.

Also, Sean is right. Extension and Updates is downloading the latest VA thus you need a fresh license (that covers the date of the latest build)

I purchased license in Oct 2013. The build i am using is of 2014 (VA_X.dll file version 10.9.2047.0 built 2014.09.16). It was working fine with VS 2013 in my old lap top till last week.

Which version of Visual Studio 2013 were you using on the old laptop? You can check it by either checking out Help -> About in Visual Studio or the number after "DevEnv.exe version" in VA info.

I'm wondering if it is the same version on your old and new laptop. Also, which version of the .NET framework is Help -> About showing on your old laptop?

Also, can you please try if installing build 2212 makes any difference? We're constantly fixing problems and you may be running into a problem that is already fixed.

New Laptop
-------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013
Version 12.0.21005.1 REL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.6.01586

Old Laptop has been replaced. So cannot check version.

Tried installing build 2212. It is working with VS2013. But my license is not getting accepted there. :(
