VA_X.dll file version 10.8.2036.0 built 2014.05.22

Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013
Version 12.0.21005.1 REL

Win 7 SP1

Whenever I "Open Files in Solution" (either from VA menu or keyboard shortcut), Visual Studio becomes unresponsive / hangs and can only remedied by killing Visual Studio via End Task in Windows Task Manager.

This bug has only just started occurring (build 2014.05.22 was working fine previously), but am now experiencing it 100% of the time. The bug is present when opening several different solutions.

thanks

turned out to be a user error rather a bug - nothing to see here

Thank you for the update. If I may ask, what sort of user error? The only thing I have been able to think of that would cause the IDE to "hang" is the dialog appearing off the visible screen for some reason. In this case Escape should return control to the IDE.

Yes - that was it exactly!

I guess the only minor "bug" is that the user cannot quit Visual Studio with the VA "Open Files in Solution" dialogue open.

Have you brought the Open File dialog back into view yet? Or are you still having it appear where you cannot see it?

Did the dialog disappear off screen because you removed an extra monitor, or was the trigger something else? VA dialogs are supposed to notice when they are appearing off the screen, and make sure they are visible, but clearly this is not working for you.

As for the IDE not closing when you have an open dialog, that's a separate question.

The dialogue was showing on an additional monitor (connected via VGA) that was set to another input. I must have dragged the dialog over there at some point previously when the input was set to my Visual Studio machine.

Really this was entirely my bad!

So was the dialog actually showing up? I am just trying to check if the "make sure the dialog is visible somewhere" code has broken for you is all

I work with dual monitors myself, and I know the feeling of "loosing" a dialog when it appears on the other monitor, and you are not looking there, a very easy mistake to make

The dialog was positioned on the other monitor, however, it was not visible because this monitor was set to another input.

Just to note; I can drag other windows to the other monitor whilst the input is set to another source, reproducing what happens with VA.

That makes sense, thank you for the explanation. Since Windows thinks the other monitor is still active, we would have no reason to reposition the dialog.
