Installed vassistx on this PC, and plugin didn't load.
then searched web for solution, and somewhere I have find out that I need to rename CVSNT file u3(something).dll. After several Uninstall and Installs. VAssistX menu is finally visible in Visual Studio 2005/2008.
But all options are disabled !?
Tried turning on logging, but no log files are created (searched entire c drive, have 4.3 TB on other drives so only C drive).

List of installed components on VS2005:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
Version 8.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200)
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 2.0.50727 SP2
Installed Edition: Professional
Microsoft Visual Basic 2005
Microsoft Visual C# 2005
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
Microsoft Visual J# 2005
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005
Extensions for Windows WF
nFringe : UnrealScript 1.1.34.193
Visual Assist X
.NET Reflector (disabled in addons)
Qt Add-in 1.1.9

Only thing I didn't try is uninstalling other software, which I will not do as I have them too many, and highly modified environment settings.

Is there any other way I can debug why addon isn't enabled!?
I might have installed Vassistx before, but I can't be sure.
This system is from August 2006 (WindowsXP).

At this point I am clueless what might be the problem.

all help appreciated
thanks

Did you see any error messages or problems when running the VA installer?
Do you have CVSNT installed on your system? This should not be causing any problems with the current version of VA.

Which version of Visual Studio are you using? We are unable to support the Express versions, so that would cause a problem like this.

How did you turn on logging? VA logging is normally turned on in the VA Options dialog.

How are you loading Visual Studio? Are you using a keyboard shortcut key to run it? Passing it any command line parameters?

1. Did you see any error messages or problems when running the VA installer?
NO, but it seams that finished more quickly - PC at work took some time.
But I have VS2010 at work, this might have something to do with that time.

2. Do you have CVSNT installed on your system? This should not be causing any problems with the current version of VA.
YES, but CVSNT services are disabled, and u3....dll renamed. I can uninstall CVSNT since I can't remember when was the last time I used it.

3. Which version of Visual Studio are you using? We are unable to support the Express versions, so that would cause a problem like this.
2005 PRO/2008 PRO, both versions are fully installed. no express versions!
But I have separate IDE of 2008 that came with UDK3, but never used it.

4. How did you turn on logging? VA logging is normally turned on in the VA Options dialog.
someone on forum was explaining how to turn on login using registry. *only thing he fail to mention what the type is Logging value, but I've tried it all :S

5. How are you loading Visual Studio? Are you using a keyboard shortcut key to run it? Passing it any command line parameters?
Normally by pressing ENTER key on the project solutions via total commander, or new instance by clicking on VS icon on extended toolbar in taskbar. I have no ALT, SHIFT, or CTRL keys pressed ever! why would I ever press SHIFT - I don't install unstable packages on my PC. In any case I do exacly same thing on work PC where plugin is working fine - so I am guessing I am not the human part of the error ;)

BTW do you use specific msvcpp++ dll's ?
I have frozen this OS with no automatic updates since it messed up several programs in past with updates.
So I install manually security patches - selectively.
I might missing some references/dependency for specific version, or maybe not !?
plugin wouldn't load at all if there are missing dependencies, unless you are loading them manually!?

BTW dw said XMLLITE.dll is missing on system for VA_X.dll.
I'we installed XMLLite for Windows XP (KB915865) and missing dll was resolved, will try to reinstall VAX, again.

I guess that XMLLITE.dll made the point (thanks to DW we now know that)
now Installing takes same amount of time like at the Work PC (still updating VS) ;)

...

it works now, have it on splash screen ;)
tooltips dialog popups, and first start my IDE is immensely slow :S
but now everything VAssistX submenues, options, and all are enabled ;)

PS: think you need to make the list of dependencies for this plugin

For the dependencies, this page does list that VA requires WinXP SP3:

https://wholetomato.com/downloads/requirements.asp

which includes the XMLLITE.dll.

For the speed of loading the IDE, do you have:

VA Options -> Performance -> Parse all files when opening a project

turned On or Off? VA should not slow down the actual IDE load its self, but VA does need to parse your solution and stable include directories once you load your solution. Once the stable include directories have been parsed, VA does not reparse them the next time you load the solution.

Once VA has finished parsing, which is mentioned on the IDE status bar, VA should not slow you down much at all. Are you still seeing a slow down once everything has been parsed?
