Hey Fellas,


I've been loving VA for many years!

Today I tried to get a friend to trial it,

When he ran the installer and started VS it asked him to login!?

This is not something I've ever seen before and the requirements for phone number etc immediately scared us away.

My question is: Is this new? If so what was the last build without this problem because no one i know is giving their phone number away just to do a quick test.

Agreed, requiring personal information for a trial is pretty scummy practice tbh.

I believe many people will refuse to give out personal details to simply trial software.

I STRONGLY suggest removing this requirement, I could have converted several collogues recently had this requirement not been put in place.

Giving out details (especially phone numbers) is kind of a no-no in my country and makes the software look more like ransomware or marketing spyware.

Obviously on purchase you can have this info but trial needs to be painless and quick, I'm certain the number of people willing to trial VA will fall to zero in short order if this is not fixed.

Thankfully I still have an old pre VA_X_Setup2488_0.exe installer but I consider anything after that unusable in terms of introducing new people to VA.

Please make sure this gets to whoever needs to hear it.

You guys have an amazing product but this ruins it.

We might be mixing up terms. The trial dialog does ask for customer information (same info as the form on our site) but does not require or create an account.

You must fill in the customer information form in order to begin the trial.

The only time you will be required to log in to the product is during registration of a purchased license, not for a trial.

For the "Activate 30-day trial" dialog, the trial will begin as soon as you click "Activate trial". No account is created or required at that time.

What is the title of the dialog you are seeing? Could you shoot [email protected] a screenshot? Closing the trial activation dialog should just return you to the previous dialog if you don't fill it in.

How may we use the software without logging in? This in-program login screen has a close button but that disables Visual Assist.

To answer the other question, VA Build 2023.2, VA_X_Setup2488_0.exe is the last version that doesn't prompt when running in trial mode.

No, it's not exactly new. We have had the same form on our website for years and moved it in-product instead. You don't have to log in to try the product. There is no account required and the trial starts immediately.
