I just installed the lastest (2458) VA onto a fresh windows 10/VS Pro setup, and the VA toolbar has no icons whatsoever, although the buttons work.

I have asked about this, since you have such a recurring problem:

case=149073
pstemper Posted - Jan 20 2023 : 09:16:46 AM
feline, please tell me it is coming soon. ;) Now it happens EVERYTIME I reboot my machine. Luckily running the devenv setup fixes it, but that can get annoying every time Windows makes me reboot. :)

Or if you need someone to beta test the fix, I volunteer!

Thanks!

feline Posted - Jan 20 2023 : 06:39:22 AM
The fix has not been released yet, so all current versions of VA are vulnerable to this problem. Did "devenv.exe /setup" fix the problem for you? It normally does, but it isn't guaranteed to work, sad to say.
PacketPusher Posted - Jan 19 2023 : 1:15:30 PM
The problem also happens in Build 2471. It occurred when I temporarily turned off VAssistX in the extensions menu using:

Enable/Disable VAssistX

We are currently testing the potential fix. If all goes fine, it will be included in upcoming release.
pstemper Posted - Jan 17 2023 : 08:49:09 AM
I too had this problem come back. Executing setup at the command line worked again (of course I am running ENTERPRISE so I needed to change the path to
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\2022\Enterprise\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup
instead.

Really looking forward to the updated fix for this.
Thanks Whole Tomato for being on top of this, even though it is hard to reproduce!

Apologies for this. We are working on a solution to this, and think we are close to something reliable and solid. We still cannot reproduce this properly on demand here, which isn't helping, but it definitely happens.

I had this problem in the past, seemed like it was fixed but I'm having it again...
The devenv /setup trick works (most of the time) but that changes my IDE language, so I have to change it again and restart the IDE. Which brings it back. The last time only some of the icons went missing...
feline Posted - Dec 19 2022 : 05:35:34 AM
We are working on a fix for this. For now, can you please close all instances of Visual Studio, and then open a Windows command prompt, running as Administrator, and then run the command:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\2022\Professional\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup

this should fix the problem you are seeing.

For what it's worth I'm, also getting this problem

We are working on a proper solution, but the available evidence points to an interaction problem between VA and the IDE, so this isn't completely under our control, but hopefully the solution will be ready soon.

jencas I have just emailed you about this. I just want to check a test profile before we do anything to harsh.
MikMik Posted - Dec 13 2022 : 06:55:40 AM
I had been working without any problems for a few weeks. But today the icons are gone. The "devenv /setup" trick seems to work, but it is less than ideal.
jencas Posted - Dec 13 2022 : 01:42:16 AM
I'm using VS2019 and VS2022. In VS2019 the icons are visible. In VS2022 they aren't, so unfortunately we have to go the stony way. VS2022 is v17.4.2 with following info:

Which version of Visual Studio are you using? I would like to try installing VA into a test profile, to see if the icons work correctly there, before trying anything more drastic. But the instructions are a bit more complex for VS2022, and are a bit easier for earlier versions of Visual Studio.
jencas Posted - Dec 06 2022 : 01:18:18 AM
Since the last Visual Studio update the icons are gone again. But this time "devenv /setup" did't bring them back. Even deleting the VS icon cache didn't help. Any other suggestion?
feline Posted - Nov 28 2022 : 11:58:11 AM
At least this fixed one of the two machines. I have just emailed you about this, since the next step needs a little more care, and should not be done to casually. It should fix the problem for you though, which is what matters.
Uniwares Posted - Nov 26 2022 : 10:38:15 AM
For what its worth, on my home machine a restart brought them back. Lets see if they stay.
Uniwares Posted - Nov 25 2022 : 2:06:42 PM
Not solving it for me here, even with the 2022.4 update its still the same. Actually now I have the same problem on my home machine too, I havent used it for some time so maybe it was present before and I didnt notice.
feline Posted - Nov 11 2022 : 12:21:08 PM
Apologies for the slow reply here. For nearly everyone who has reported this problem so far, opening a command prompt as Administrator, and from this command prompt running "devenv.exe /setup" has fixed the problem.

There have been a couple of people who needed to take an extra step or two, but so far this has been thankfully very rare. We are also working on a proper fix, but still cannot reproduce the hard to fix version of the bug here on demand, which complicates matters.
pstemper Posted - Nov 11 2022 : 12:05:56 PM
My problem has been resolved now. I submitted a ticket to support yesterday, and today they gave me the steps to fix it. It STILL involved running devenv with the /setup flag, but they had me remove the cached image icon folder first. That has fixed it now. I restarted VS several times since, and so far so good!
Uniwares Posted - Nov 11 2022 : 09:19:43 AM
Just restart and they will go away.

I cant get them to show on this machine.
AlfredS Posted - Nov 11 2022 : 09:14:16 AM
Hi!
The icons are back! Don't ask me what I have done or why they are now visible. I don't know! Very strange!
It's not a solution but make hope. :-)

I too am NOW having this issue. SOME of the VA icons are missing, but not all. I am running VA 10.9.2463.0 Built 2022.10.25.
I tried running devenv with the /setup switch. No difference.
I have rebooted, no difference.

VA_X64.dll file version 10.9.2463.0 built 2022.10.25
DevEnv.exe version 17.4.33103.184 Enterprise
msenv.dll version 17.0.33103.184
Comctl32.dll version 6.10.19041.1110
Windows 10 10.0 22H2 Build 19045.2251

Yes i saw, still no solution. Never seen it before in any VS installation. All up to date, no extensions that I don't usually have. Only difference is that its VS Professional with azure managed licenses.

Hi!
Have a look at https://forums.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19331

Under 17.4.0 I have the problem that only for one IDE start the icons are visible. By the next start, they are gone. To run always devenv.exe /Setup is a little tiring.
