I got a new computer and I downloaded 1540 to try it and the trial just expired. I can't seem to go back to 1445 for which I had a license. When I enter the key, it says that it is a key for a version that no longer has technical support, which is true, but shouldn't it still be good for 1445? I had not removed VA from my old computer, but I have now and the symptoms are the same.

You should have the keys in your email
feline Posted - Oct 29 2012 : 10:22:07 PM
I have asked support to have a look for your key, we should have this on file.

Here it is over 5 years later and I find myself with pretty much the same problem.
I want to upgrade, but I have changed computers and don't have my old key.
I don't even remember which version of VA I had. I am running the trial version right now.
What do you suggest?
Thanks

Yes, it's been in every build since 1559. Very cool feature :)
Old as dirt Posted - Sep 12 2007 : 10:22:20 AM
Is that feature in 1559 as well?

We do try to offer very good support. I personally feel this is very important.

Be sure to check out the new refactoring features, and have a look at this thread as well

I decided that I needed VA too much to spend any more time trying to get my old version to work again and purchased an upgrade.
If anyone thinks that Whole Tomato does not give support, and I saw one entry to that effect while looking into why I was having trouble changing my email address, tell them to look at the effort that they put into supporting me, and my technical support ran out over a year ago. Thanks.

The forum software does not give me access to the email addresses. I get a "send email" form, which I can type my message into, but no information on where it is being sent. A good way of stopping people harvesting email addresses, but a touch unhelpful at this time.

The trial key is:

Trial License
AE62-928B-D534-440B-758F-D1A4-733B-AAF3-BE61-1D4C-DD11-005F

It is not worth fussing over to much, I doubt this will help anyone else, I am just reluctant to post keys to the forum on principle

I am hoping that this will be accepted by the system, and that VA will run successfully. If so then it is possible that in a day or two's time you can use the Enter Key button in the VA options dialog to enter your actual licence key, and that this will then be accepted.

Its a reasonable theory. At the very least the trial key should work and give us a few days grace.

I only thought that I corrected my email address in my profile. I can't seem to get that done, first by not reading the instructions that came with the email saying that someone was changing my email, and then by be impatient and trying to do it again. So now it is locked up.
Can you please send it to "handsaw" instead of "handsom" with the rest of the address being the same as in the profile.
feline Posted - Sep 11 2007 : 07:28:13 AM
email sent. Hopefully you will get this one.

Please try sending it again. I've corrected my email address in my profile.
Thanks

I have something, I have emailed you about it.

Any luck getting the new key so we can go on?
Old as dirt Posted - Sep 07 2007 : 2:24:07 PM
1445 is refusing my key, but if I click "Try" instead of "Enter Key" it loads OK saying that my trial period is up in 2 days.

I can't tell you how much I depend on VA. I didn't know until it quit working.
feline Posted - Sep 07 2007 : 2:02:47 PM
*um* that's not good.

Do you see this problem with VA 1445? Or is it "simply" refusing to accept your key?

I have asked internally for a trial key for 1445. Since this would have a different end date I am hoping that it will successfully install and replace the current key. If this works we can then work from there.

When I try to go back all the way to 1299 or 1298 it seems to install without error but when I start VS it gives the following message box:
----------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
The Add-in 'Visual Assist X' failed to load or caused an exception.
Would you like to remove this Add-in?
If you choose yes, you will need to reinstall the Add-in to use it again.

Error Message: ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

Error number: 80040111
Yes No

Here is the stuff from the about box.
To get this far, I had to click the "Try" button. The "Enter Key" button gives me the expired key message.
I think I tried just loading 1445 on top of 1540, but when that didn't work I uninstalled VA and loaded 1445 again. When that didn't work I tried 1299 and that still didn't work. I don't think it even asked for a key, but I'm not sure. The last thing I did was to uninstall and delete the VA directory from program files and reinstall. Is it tied to the Internet somehow, because the tips screen isn't what I remember, though it has been a long time since I have had the tips come up at startup.

Have you tried installing 1445 over the top of 1540? Or did you use some other method?

When you go into the VA options dialog which version does it report is currently installed?

I am not quite sure why this is failing, but it certainly should work.
