In Windows 7 (Simplified Chinese)
and VS2010 Pro (Simplified Chinses)

when I open IME and type sign of multiplication in

will fail, and display another chinese character.

I am seeing the same problem here, thank you for the clear description:

case=53114

Does disabling VA, via the menu command:

VAssistX -> Enable/Disable Visual Assist X

fix this for you? It does for me. Hopefully this will help you work around the problem.
