Hi
Tried to install the latest version: VA_X_Setup2588_0.exe
This happens when it wants to install it into VS2022 :
--------------------------- Visual Assist Installer --------------------------- An error was reported by Visual Studio VSIXInstaller. See the next window for access to its error log. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
--------------------------- VSIX Installer --------------------------- Diese Erweiterung ist bereits fr alle entsprechenden Produkte installiert. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
---------------------------
This happens when it wants to install it into VS2019 :
[Window Title] VAXSetup.exe
[Debuggen] [Programm schlieen]

The second error, this is being translated as:
>> This extension is already installed for all corresponding products.
which is a normal message. This is expected if you are trying to install the same, or an earlier version of Visual Assist, compared to the version currently installed, and are using the VSIX installer to do the install.
The final error though, being translated as:
>> The program does not run properly due to a problem. The program closes and you are notified when a solution is available.
That is really strange. The only time I might expect that to happen is if you run the exe installer, are installing for VS2008 or earlier, but do not accept the windows permission dialog to run the installer in Admin mode, so the installer doesn't get to run. But that should not happen, or matter, for VS2019.
Did VA actually install correctly?
Were you reinstalling the same, or an older version of VA? Or did you get this when actually installing a newer version of VA?
Can you please look for any files in your %TEMP% directory called "vsix*.log", which are the installer log files that our exe installer will be reading. If there are any can you please send me the files via email:

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up. Hopefully they will offer some clues as to what is going on here. |

| Sent the logs to [email protected] It seems it has installed it correctly for VS2022. I installed the latest setup which I downloaded 1-2 hours ago. It was installed over the existing VA installation. |

| I have the log files, thank you for those. Unfortunately no VA install logs present, so no clues there. Very strange, and hopefully not an early sign of a wider problem. |

This might be better handled via email, so I can send you links and a powershell script to download and run.

Assuming a valid download of our installer, and that reinstalling VA does not fix this, the first obvious test is to install VA into a test profile in VS2022 and see if that makes any difference. I have a script that automates and simplifies doing this, if you don't mind running a powershell script, but only after reading it first! I did try to keep it simple and easy enough to sanity check :) |
