1. VA: 10.9.2048
1.1 OS: Win 8.1 Pro x64 Eng
2. IDEs: VS 5.0 (1997) Eng, VS 6 (1998) Eng
3. Problem:
VA build 2031-: work with VS97 but not work with VS98
VA build 2036+: work with VS98 but not work with VS97
VS97 and VS98 ide executable files renamed from MSDEV.EXE to MSDEV2.EXE,
debug and other function work correctly except VA.

I don't think we officially support VS 5.0, but we do still support Visual C++ 6, and this is working just fine for me with VA 2048. I would not know where to download VS 5.0 from to test it, Visual C++ 6 was removed from MSDN a few years ago now, and I suspect VS 5.0 disappeared at the same time.
Why have you renamed "msdev.exe" to "msdev2.exe"? This may be the problem. |

build 2036 has this fix:
VC6: Fix for failure of VA to load on Windows 8 when msdev.exe is renamed. (case=81733)
Unfortunately, that broke VC5 for the same scenario (renamed exe). Since we don't even support it (stopped years ago), there is unlikely to be any change for this. Is rename of the exe the only way to make it run on win8?

| The next release of VA will special case a renamed msdev: msdev5.exe. Utterly unsupported but it should work as well as it did prior to build 2036. It will not be tested and won't show up in the release notes. |

Problem is here: Win 8.1 not support VC5 & VC6, and the only solution is to rename msdev.exe to msdev2.exe (or other name).
I know that VC5 as old as mammoth but little bit of my project was written in VC5 and this part cannot be translated to newest version.

You can use VirtualBox with an older OS running in your Win 8.x machine. Set it up to share a local C:\\ folder on the network and you can read/write directly to your own machine from the virtual machine.
