I know I've asked this before but my searches in the forum haven't turned up the answer.

When I Clone Results from a Find References, I always want them in a a new, floating window, not as a tab. There used to be a regkey to set to get this behavior but my new machine of course doesn't have that set and it's not in the Options that I can find.

Please make this a real option (and can anyone offer the mystery regkey to set?)

John

I didn't find it either. Have you used it before? Here is the list of available registry keys with description:
http://docs.wholetomato.com/default.asp?W254

I have put in a feature request to make it available:

The default value is written as part of the VA installation.
You could modify the default (disable VA, modify file, enable VA, restart).

file: VAX.pkgdef
section with:
"Name"="Visual Assist Cloned Reference Results"
the line is: "Style"="Tabbed"

The modification needs to be made every time VA is installed.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide this in the options menu.

This doesn't seem to work any more. I tried disable VA, modify the file, enable VA and restarting VS.

I changed it to "Style"="Float" but my cloned results still show up in the tabs.
I also tried setting to "Style"="Floating" with the same results.
I also tried manually floating some results before closing VS to see if there was a difference. No change in the next Clone - still tabbed.

Maybe VS has cached that setting elsewhere and I'm out of luck.

Here's the current content:

[$RootKey$\\ToolWindows\\{904f4835-1d5b-4c6b-97c8-c13447a514cc}]
@="{44630d46-96b5-488c-8df9-26e21db8c1a3}"
"Name"="Visual Assist Cloned Reference Results"
"Float"="200,200,700,300"
"Orientation"="Right"
"Style"="Float"
"Window"="{34e76e81-ee4a-11d0-ae2e-00a0c90fffc3}"

I've found the original thread where some additional info can be found:
http://forums.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9966

Make sure that you modify the correct VAX.pkgdef. If you have more Visual Studios installed, there are different paths for different Visual Studio versions.

With VS2012 and VS2013, there is a random hash in the directory name, so you can find the file via a search tool from

%LOCALAPPDATA%\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio\\11.0\\Extensions
(VS2012)

or

%LOCALAPPDATA%\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio\\12.0\\Extensions
(VS2013)

Does this help? If not, I'll dig deeper.
