Hello,
I've just installed VAX on my Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 8 and now VS runs really slow.
Most of the times everything is just slower. Every click, every opening of file, everything is little slower.
Changing build type from Release to Debug hangs for few seconds, and sometimes even hangs whole VS for good.
Writing code is slower, sometimes, when there are some Boost macros on the screen, writing single letter takes about 1 second (!) for the letter to appear.
Selecting text is also slower and lags noticeably. After pasting some code editor is unresponsive for half a second.
Performance depends on what is visible on the screen, like I said, when there are some Boost macros visible, performance drops really badly.
But even in simple files whole VS feels laggy.

Few months ago, when I tested VAX on the same project, the same machine, the same VS, but running on Windows XP, VAX was running like a charm.
Now sadly I have to disable it to be able to work comfortably.
Moreover, it also feels like VAX is not so smart anymore with parsing STL containers (not mentioning Boost) as it used to be.

What can be wrong? What data can I provide to help you find the problem?

So when you disable Visual Assist everything is fast again?
VA isn't parsing the source file until you stop typing, so this one letter per second problem may be related to coloring.
Can you please try whether turning this feature off separately while leaving VA enabled solves this problem?

VA Options -> Advanced -> Fonts and colors

Here, untick "Enable enhanced syntax coloring" and then press OK to close the dialog. Does it make any difference?

Have you done the following steps for your new, Windows 8 machine?
http://docs.wholetomato.com?W363

It enhances VA's accuracy with complex code (e.g. Boost) and it should not affect performance very badly, but it is something worth checking.

When you are seeing the performance problems, hiccups, are you seeing a message in the status bar "VA X: Parsing <filename>" as well?

Can you please try disabling your virus killer temporarily to see if it makes any difference? However it is rare, so very unlikely, we did see problems with security software in the past. One example, when such program starts scanning Visual Assist's database for some reason.
