I just installed Update 2 to VS2012 and now I get this error when I load a project. VA appears to be functional...

The log file has this at the end:

<record>672</record>
2013/04/05 02:05:08.690
<type>Information</type>
Extension Manager

Searching folder for extension.vsixmanifest files...

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft SDKs

I running VA 10.7.1929.0

I have a similar problem after installing VS 2012 Update 2. In my ActivityLog.xml I get this message:

<record>659</record>
2013/04/05 08:02:56.164
<type>Error</type>
Editor or Editor Extension

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.#x000D;#x000A; at r.TextViewCreated(IWpfTextView textView)#x000D;#x000A; at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Editor.Implementation.WpfTextView.<>c__DisplayClassc.<BindContentTypeSpecificAssets>b__9()#x000D;#x000A; at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Utilities.GuardedOperations.CallExtensionPoint(Object errorSource, Action call)

Please fix this problem ASAP. Have to disable Visual Assist X until this is fixed!

Hi Folks,

For me the issue went away after disabling the VisualAssistX extension, and restarting Visual Studio. I was then able to re-enable VisualAssistX, without reintroducing the exception message.

Thanks Uwe! I did the same as you, and I also no longer get this exception message.

I am glad this is fixing the problem for you. I have just installed VS2012 Update 2 on a Windows 8 machine here, with VA 1929 and I am not seeing any exception. So this does not always happen, which is something, but I am not sure what the trigger could be.

Do either of you have other extensions installed that you have downloaded and added to the IDE, as opposed to extensions that were installed by default?
