Starting VS2012 from the start menu with my solution from the MRU list, I now get this crash due to heap corruption:

>	ntdll.dll!_RtlReportCriticalFailure@8()  + 0x57 bytes
 	ntdll.dll!_RtlpReportHeapFailure@4()  + 0x21 bytes
 	ntdll.dll!_RtlpLogHeapFailure@24()  + 0xa1 bytes
 	ntdll.dll!_RtlFreeHeap@12()  + 0x50050 bytes
 	kernel32.dll!_HeapFree@12()  + 0x14 bytes
 	VA_X.dll!1f148faf()
 	[Frames below may be incorrect and/or missing, no symbols loaded for VA_X.dll]
 	kernel32.dll!@BaseThreadInitThunk@12()  + 0x12 bytes
 	ntdll.dll!___RtlUserThreadStart@8()  + 0x27 bytes
 	ntdll.dll!__RtlUserThreadStart@8()  + 0x1b bytes

Starting VS2012 and then opening my solution from the MRU list on the file menu works fine. Just an FYI since I have a work around.

Which OS are you using? Is this a 32 or 64bit OS?

Are you able to test this with a different solution, to see if this is a solution specific problem?

I am not seeing any problems when doing this with VS2012, VA 1917 or VA 1918 and Windows 7 64bit.

Next time this happens, can you please save out a mini dump file and send it to us? Hopefully this will help us to find out what is going on here.

Saving out a mini dump file is explained here, in case you need any help with this:

Please submit the files via the form:

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up.

I've gotten quite a large number of crashes lately too (sometimes on solution load; sometimes just randomly) that go away when I uninstall VAX. I'll make sure to grab a mini dump next time it happens.

Sorry for these problems, obviously this is not supposed to be happening. Hopefully the mini dump will help us to figure out what is going on here, so we can fix it.

Ok, I just sent in a crash dump. I'm on Win7 64 bit. The crash dump was generated from WER.
