Every once in a while i find that the VA Navigation Bar is completely empty. Restart visual studio and it works. Seems random, maybe see it once or twice a week. I'm on the latest version and have been seeing this issue off and on for the past couple versions.

When this happens, is your VA Navigation Bar stays empty for every symbol in your file or only one/few symbols are missing? Does it help if you switch to another file? Does it help if you reopen the same file? Does it help if you reparse the file? (VAssistX -> Tools -> Reparse Current File) Does it only happen when you try to find something as on the screenshot? Have you installed any other Visual Studio extensions? |

When this happens, is your VA Navigation Bar stays empty for every symbol in your file or only one/few symbols are missing? -- Pretty sure it's all newly opened files, i'll do some more tests next time it happens.
Does it help if you switch to another file? -- No, it's always empty when i come back
Does it help if you reopen the same file? -- No, it's always empty when i come back
Does it help if you reparse the file? (VAssistX -> Tools -> Reparse Current File) -- I'll try this out next time it happens.
Does it only happen when you try to find something as on the screenshot? -- I don't think that is related as i use find all the time, I'll keep on eye on this.
Have you installed any other Visual Studio extensions? -- A few, .Net Memory Profiler (not in use), OzCode |

Can you please try disabling .Net Memory Profiler since it is not in use, just to rule it out completely? You may be able to do it via the extension manager:
Tools -> Extensions and Updates...
Regarding OzCode, I'm wondering whether it is connected to a feature. What I mean by that that you may trigger a feature, a dialog, etc. which triggers the problem itself. You may not notice the problem immediately with the empty navbar, so next time this happens, please try to remember what OzCode feature did you use before? Is there a feature in this extension that you rarely use? (once or twice a week similarly to the problem's frequency) |

Just had it happen again
- was not showing up for all open files and newly opened files - did not matter if i switched to another file, they were all missing the nav bar - (VAssistX -> Tools -> Reparse Current File) Menu item was disabled - was not doing a find
i'll disable ozcode and see if that makes a difference. |

Thank you, it would be really helpful to know. Also, I noticed that nav bar is not just empty but it is not drawn at all. Reparse is disabled... Hmmm... It is strange, VA must be in a disabled state? Are other features such as refactoring works? Can you trigger say Rename on variables? |

Happened again with ozcode uninstalled.
- same thing no nav bar (quits painting) - right click - Refactor (VA) only has one menu item, Edit Refactoring Snippets. So can't trigger a rename |

When this is happening, does Alt-g or Alt-Shift-g do anything?
If you show the VA Outline, VA View or VA Hashtags windows, do they show up correctly, and does VA Outline show any information for the current file?
It's almost as if VA has been partly disabled, that, or we are having problems seeing the editor / current file.
A random thought, in your screen shot the files are flagged as read only. Does opening a non read only file make any difference?
Do you have your IDE integrated into your source control system? |
