In a C statement
uint32 *pbytes, bytes;
"bytes" has type uint32. Visual Assist thinks differently.

Look at the Visual Assist bar at the top. There it says "uint32 * bytes":

VA_X.dll file version 10.9.2048.0 built 2014.09.22
DevEnv.exe version 12.0.30723.0
msenv.dll version 12.0.30723.0
Comctl32.dll version 6.10.7601.17514
