Posted - Sep 06 2009 : 11:10:18 AM This is a new PC running Vista x64 and from the Windows SDK downloads it only has Windows 7 SDK installed, along with VS2008SP1.
In VS2008|Options|Project and Solutions I see the following:

In VA settings I see the following:

If I open a Visual Studio Command prompt I see the following:

Does this look normal? It seems to me that at least one of the variables get translated to the wrong path.

This blog post from the Windows SDK team has more information about that command: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowssdk/archive/2009/08/07/using-the-win-7-sdk-build-environment-with-vs-2008.aspx

BINGO! Problem solved, thanks! I used the UI of the SDK Configuration tool, but it does the same thing with the command line you supplied.

I open it from the Tools menu. According to "External Tools..." dialog this runs: COMMAND: %systemroot%\\system32\\cmd.exe ARGUMENT: /K vcvars32.bat INITIAL DIR: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\\vc\\bin |

Sorry about forgetting that, I use Version 10.5.1727.0 built 2009.06.12, which is the latest general release at the time of this writing.
Also note I am using Visual Studio 2008 "Team Suite", if that makes any difference.
