When I install a new version should I uninstall the old version first? Will I be able to go back if I don't like the new version (keeping all my settings and customizations)? Thanks.

There is no need to uninstall first, just install the new, or even the older version, straight over the top of the current version. Installing a different version keeps all of your existing settings. If you want to be really sure you can simply export them before doing the install:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
