Posted - Apr 05 2017 : 08:50:48 AM When I start up my solution, I get a Visual Studio message saying: "An exception has been encountered. This may be caused by an extension.
You can get more information by examining the file: .../VisualStudio/14.0/ActivityLog.xml"
Looking at the XML, I see a few of these errors:

<record>577</record> 2017/04/05 12:20:55.320 <type>Error</type> Editor or Editor Extension
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.#x000D;#x000A; at WholeTomatoSoftware.SourceLinks.HwTagger.<GetTags>d__0.MoveNext()#x000D;#x000A; at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Tagging.Implementation.TagAggregator`1.<GetTagsForBuffer>d__38.MoveNext()

Posted - Apr 05 2017 : 12:40:52 PM Do you have the SourceLinks extension installed? If so, here is a workaround to fix the configuration:
disable Visual Assist (using Tools | Extensions and Updates) restart disable SourceLinks (using Tools | Extensions and Updates) restart enable Visual Assist (using Tools | Extensions and Updates) restart enable SourceLinks (using Tools | Extensions and Updates) restart
Sorry for the inconvenience. This will be fixed in the next release of Visual Assist. case=104914
