Posted - May 24 2016 : 1:11:08 PM New is better in one important way -- the lightweight installer has significantly less impact on the system, so much so that VA doesn't know it is even installed.
At this point, vsixinstaller.exe included by the new VS installer doesn't work either.
I expect that VS15 will offer new APIs at some point to support non-gallery installation of extensions. |

Posted - May 24 2016 : 1:03:17 PM My downloads folder has since been cleaned - but your screenshot looks very familiar. I got mine off of MSDN downloads, and I probably chose the "new installer" - cuz newer is better of course :)
Thanks sean and feline.

Posted - May 24 2016 : 11:02:27 AM That is not a screenshot of the web installer. That is the new installer (lightweight installer). VA installer does not support the new installer. Once the VS Gallery is updated, you will be able to install VA using Tools | Extensions and Updates.
This is mentioned in the following blog post: https://blog.wholetomato.com/2016/05/12/visual-assist-build-2097-is-available/

Posted - May 24 2016 : 10:30:59 AM Interesting, I am seeing the "same" problem. Windows 10, the only installed IDE is Visual Studio 15 Preview 2. The VA installer just says that the extension is not installable on any currently installed versions of Visual Studio.
I installed the first preview via "vs_bootstrapper.exe", and used the same program to update it. This gave me a desktop shortcut called "Visual Studio 15 Preview (Lightweight Install)"
The first useful page of the installer (the very first page asks me to agree to the license terms) is:
