I am not sure if I am the only one?

Once I enter debugging mode, do something, then switch back to normal mode, auto-completion and intellisense will be disabled (together with the glitch that the whole screen refreshes whenever I type something). Then I have to click on the tomato icon to trigger Visual Assist menu and click "OK" right after that to re-enable those features.

Hm.. what's wrong?

@feline:
I am working on my local machine, so no remote desktop. I tried your suggestions and neither one had any effect on VA.

As for extensions, here's my list:
Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio
Behaviors SDK (XAML)
Microsoft Advertising pubCenter Service for Visual Studio
Microsoft Advertising SDK for Windows 8.1
Microsoft Advertising SDK for Windows Phone 8.1 XAML
Microsoft ASP.NET and Web Tools
Microsoft Visual Studio ASP.NET MVC 5 Scaffolding
NuGet Package Manager for Visual Studio 2013
Productivity Power Tools 2013
Visual Assist
Visual F# 3.1
Visual Studio Extensions for Windows Library for JavaScript
VsVim
Windows Phone 8.1 SDK Integration
Workflow Manager Activities

Do any of them have known issues with VA?

Are either of you working via remote desktop, or anything similar? Or is this happening on your local machine?

When you have the problem, does changing the current file have any effect?

What about opening a code file that is not currently open in the editor, is VA active as expected in a newly opened file?

If you look at:

IDE Tools menu -> Extensions and Updates...

what extensions are listed on you system? For VS2013 Professional Update 4 with VA I have the following extensions listed:

Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio
Behaviors SDK (XAML)
Microsoft Advertising pubCenter Service for Visual Studio
Microsoft Advertising SDK for WIndows 8.1
Microsoft ASP.NET and Web Tools
Microsoft Visual Studio ASP.NET MVC 5 Scaffolding
NuGet Package Manager for Visual Studio 2013
Visual Assist
Visual F# 3.1
Visual Studio Extensions for Windows Library for JavaScript
Windows Phone 8.1 SDK Integration

I am wondering if you both have a common extension that is unusual, that might somehow be a factor.

Whenever I enter debug mode (regardless of any breakpoints) and then return to normal mode, auto-completion and intellisense are disabled. It is also worth noting that the VAX navigation bar will either flicker as I type, or stay blank until I finish typing.

In order to re-enable auto-completion and inteliisense, I have to go to VASSISTX > Visual Assist Options... and once the menu is displayed, press Esc and then everything will be enabled again.

The weird thing is that this error has been recurring (at least since build 2048, but it will sometimes fix itself randomly. Other times, it will continue.
I believe that once I managed to fix it by closing Visual Studio, uninstalling VAX, restarting my computer, and installing it again, however this is not a consistent fix.

I should also note that when I exit a debugging session and start typing again with auto-complete and intellisense disabled, typing speed slows down dramatically. This is persists until I use the work-around described earlier.
