Is there a way to access prior results without having to re-run the same query? Something like a tab option allowing results to persist until manually cleared?

Best regards,

There is a right-click menu in most VA windows, including VA Outline, VA View and the Alt-M list. Its worth trying right click if you are trying to achieve something, or just curious.

To be fair, I don't think stale results was available 6 years ago, but I would have to look to find out when we added it

We don't have videos yet, but it is something we are looking into producing. Working out what they should contain is half the job it sometimes feels. Something that covers "hidden features" is interesting, but people are unlikely to sit through anything at all long. It does look like context menus should be mentioned at least in passing though, which is worth realising.

An video on hidden features makes sense, but what to include...

feline, I never knew the right-click menu was there. That "Allow navigation to stale results" would've been nice to know about six or so years ago. :-) It's always navigated to the top of the file, and then I had to jump to the line number manually.

Is there a video somewhere showing usage of the many and varied hidden features of VAX?

*oops* I have just confused myself You were talking about alt+shift+F (find references) and not alt+shift+S (find symbol).

You can already use a limited "history". If you select something in the editor and launch find symbol dialog (alt+shift+F), the selection will be put in the editbox. Now, if you press ctrl+Z, you can see your previous symbol. I have added a comment to the case to implement this undo for all cases.

From the documentation:

quote:

Enable "Initialize search with editor selection" to make the Find Symbol dialog open with selected text as the current filter. Press Undo (Ctrl-Z) to restore the previous filter(s).

*ah* Okay, that is a different dialog

We don't have a feature for this just yet, but I have put in a feature request for this:

case=88679
The request was misunderstood.

Once you have run Find References either use the "Clone Results" toolbar button or the context menu command "Clone Results to New Window" in the Find References Results window. This will open these results in a separate window, which is then preserved when you run a fresh Find References on a different symbol.

Oh. I mean this: Suppose I use Alt-Shift-F to find something, "ptr" for example. All of the "ptr" references in scope come up. Then I use Alt-Shift-F to find something else, "data" for example. All of the "data" references in scope come up. If after finding "data," is there a way to go back to the previous "ptr" find listing without re-running it?

Best regards,

You can use
VASSISTX -> Tools -> Find references results
to display the results again. Hope this helps.
