I do not want to put the colored letters in the box



I want it like this

Press Escape and they go away. You can also set VAssistX -> Visual Assist Options... -> Refactoring -> Automatically highlight refeences to symbol under cursor.

Turn that off and they should go away.

foxmuldr is quite right. If you don't want highlighting a couple of other settings to look out for are:

VA Options -> Display -> Highlight find results

and the "Highlight all" check box in the Find References Results window.
