  • I uninstalled Visual Assist Build 2068

  • cleaned up registry using a registry cleaner
    It mainly deleted
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Whole Tomato\\Visual Assist X

  • I installed Visual Assist Build 2074

  • crash

I have the key, just that vax will not let me enter it.

Thanks for the update.

I tried to repro the problem by deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Whole Tomato\\Visual Assist X but it worked fine for (VA gave normal trial dialog where I re-entered license).

Thanks sean. Registry trick worked.

Was this install procedure something you normally do with VA or is it the first time you have done that?

See if using a registry script to get your license installed has any effect. Directions are available here: http://docs.wholetomato.com/default.asp?W281

Could you please write us, what you deleted from Registry?

Does your registry cleaner support backup?

At first sight into a call stack, seems, that VA is not the origin of the crash. It seems to be crashing in some Windows.Forms methods and AFAIK we don't use Windows.Forms at all in VA, so that could also describe, why reinstalling to previous VA version did not help.

I don't know if it will help, but System Restore could restore also registry settings, however I would try it as last option.

Do you have also some other VS plugins installed?

Could you please also write OS and IDE versions?

Thanks.

the issue is probably similar to one faced by this guy:

http://forums.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9120

He could enter key inside visual studio, but my VS itself isn't starting for me to enter key.
hunt007 Posted - Sep 02 2015 : 07:02:48 AM
I cannot even revert to 2068 now.
Sigh...is there a way to reset all registry?

> You should be able to update Visual Assist without any registry cleaning or uninstalling

But I like to have a clean install always.

I'll see if I can upload a dump. My company policy may not allow me, I have to confirm with my manager.

Till then use the this and the image uploaded above:

You should be able to update Visual Assist without any registry cleaning or uninstalling. Did you try upgrading by just running the new installer?

Can you please save out and send in a minidump as it's explained in the following KB entry?
http://support.wholetomato.com/default.asp?W303

Zip your minidump file and attach it to a request for assistance. Please include your URL of this forum post so we can match it up.
