Hello VA Team,

I'm using VA_X.dll file version 10.9.2231.0 built 2017.08.15 with MS VS Professional 2017 15.8.7.

My problem is that filtered tags in the VA Hashtags View are still used by the auto completion. Can this be turned off so I only see the desired hashtags?

Thanks

What do you mean by filtered? There is nothing in the search field at the top of the Hashtags window. Do you mean that you have right clicked and hidden the tags?

The size of the scroll bar suggests you have a lot of hidden / filtered out hashtags, so this actually makes quite a lot of sense. I have put in a feature request for this:

Hello feline,

yes, I mean that all the filtered out hashtags should be hidden when I type a #.

Thanks for the request.

I am glad I have understood correctly.

For now, are you aware that if you have turned On the VA options:

VA Options -> Enhanced Listboxes -> Shrink as you type
VA Options -> Enhanced Listboxes -> Allow Acronyms and Shorthand

the listbox you see when starting to type a hashtag will also shrink and filter as you type just parts of the name of the tag you want? This isn't the same, but it will help quite a lot in narrowing down the number of items in the listbox.

Thanks for the tip. I already used this and it really helps.

The point is I try to get others in the team to use the hashtags as well and they don't know them so it would be great for them to have a "clean" listbox from the start.

That makes sense. For getting started with Hashtags, have you considered setting up some shared VA Snippets that will insert comment blocks with a few, common hashtags? Since these are snippets, the shortcuts can be made simple and clear, like "tag1" or "taghelp", etc,

This is something you can do right now, without waiting for this change, so worth considering.

Thanks for the idea. Haven't thought about this yet. I will check how well this performs till the feature is ready.

It's a different approach. By having shortcuts you can have any shortcut you want to insert the hashtags, which can make them easy to remember, but if the shortcuts are fairly different to the hashtag names this might feel odd. Just remember you don't want your VA Snippet shortcuts to start with #
