It would be handy if the snippet text could somehow emit text based on what is selected. For example, if $SymbolType$ is 'void' then don't emit a @return comment field for doxygen.

That is fair. We are considering adjusting Document Method, so that if the function return type is void, we don't include the $SymbolType$ line:
