Which version of VA are you using? VA 2062 is installing just fine for me with the current Visual Studio 2015 RC, running under Windows 7.

How are you trying to install VA? Via the downloaded exe installer from our website, or some other method? I am installing VS2015 RC under Windows 8.1 now, which will take a little while, then I can test this there, in case the OS is a factor.

Yup through your installer.

I tried on another PC which had windows 7 and was exposed to the VS2015 CTP uninstall then VS2015 RC Community install and it works fine on that.

Any luck with Win 8.1?

[I did have 2059 installed in VS2015 RC community under windows 8.1. When i try to update to 2062, it doesn't seem to work and 2059 remains installed]

I am not seeing any problems with Windows 8.1 either. No earlier version of VS2015 has been installed on this test machine, so that could be a factor.

What are you seeing when you first load our installer? Is the VS2015 check box enabled or disabled?

Which edition of VS2015 are you using?

Are there any other obvious differences between the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machine that might be important?

When the installer loads it's enabled and ticked, BUT it says "2015 CTP" and not "RC" so maybe CTP left some traces behind that the installer is picking up and getting tricked.

Another factor might be that the CTP was ultimate, but the RC i have is only the community version?

Nothing obvious about the 7 and 8.1 machines unfortunately.

Hi Feline,

I am also running windows 8.1

I had previously tried VS 2015 ctp, but had uninstalled it at some point.

After installing VS2015 RC, I tried installing VA 2062.

I gave options to install to:

VS2013
VS2015 CTP

I hoped it was just a mistake in the description that is said CTP and not RC

I installed to VS2015 CTP only

When I then booted VS2015 up, it did not have VA:(

The installer saying VS2015 CTP not VS2015 RC is expected behaviour. Remember, the installer was posted before the RC was released. This will probably be fixed in the next release of VA. I am selecting VS2015 CTP when installing VA 2062, and VA is installed for and working in VS2015 RC for me just fine.

tomkulaga are you using the Community edition on both machines? Or are you using a different version of VS2015 on the different machines? If I remember correctly the community edition is now supposed to support extensions, but I would need to download and install it to test this personally.

Can you both please look in:

IDE tools menu -> Extensions and Updates...

is Visual Assist listed as an installed extension? If it is, is it shown as Enabled or Disabled? Obviously, if it is listed as disabled please enable it and restart VS2015.

If VA is listed as installed and enabled, can you please see if you have the setting:

IDE tools menu -> Options -> Extensions and Updates -> Load per user extensions when running as administrator

turned On or Off. You may need to turn this On for VA to load.

Ah yes, it is community edition.

VA is not listed as an available extension

I'm going to uninstall and grab enterprise

Yup community edition on both.

Extensions should work because i have VA 2059 running in Community.

I'm not on the win8.1 machine to check the IDE->extensions, but will do tonight.

Which version of the IDE do you have VA 2059 installed to? VS2013 Community or VS2015 Community?

I now have VS2015 Community installed under Windows 7, and I am seeing the problem here. Our installer thinks VS2015 is supported, and offers to install, but at the end of the install process VA does not show up in VS2015, even though no errors are reported.

I am seeing this with both VA 2059 and VA 2062. VA is installing correctly for VS2013 Community:

case=89605

For the moment one answer is to install a different edition of VS2015 RC.

If you really need to use the community edition then I can explain how to install VA manually, which should also work, but no guarantees.

It actually works both on enterprise and on community,
but it seems like the installer of wholetomato is broken for the community version.
What you could do is extract the .vsix file and run it yourself
(it drops it at %temp% and deletes it afterwards, you could debug and put a breakpoint on deletefile)
then it works as expected.

Yes, the problem is with the .exe installer. This will be fixed in the next release of VA. In the meantime, you can use the Visual Studio Gallery to install VA in VS2015 Community.
Either via a web browser:
https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/D6678A1F-C700-4532-8C5E-A799D875063D/
Or install from within VS at Tools | Extensions and Updates | Online | Search
