Visual Assists X (and .NET) creates files presented in the projects but does not exists on disc when it does the initial scan. This causes havoc with our custom build steps.

what version of VA are you using? what IDE and language are you using? can you give me the name and location of some of these generated files? i was not aware that VA generated any files outside of its own install directory.

Visual Assist X 1418
Visual Assist .Net 1109
Also a lot of the older ones does it.
It happens right after loading a workspace into .Net 2003 during the scan.

can you give me some example file names and directories, so that i know what to look for?

i am looking at the source code directory for a C++ project that is open in VS 2003 and i am not seeing any unexpected files.

To recreate
Create new Win32 Console app (Select Empty Project in Application Settings)
Add a cpp file called test.cpp and save it
Close .Net
Delete test.cpp from HD
Open .Net and Load the project again
Wait until Visual Assist is finished with scanning and take a look at your HD again.

i have done this. i have in fact left VS2003 with VA 1432 sitting here for about 1 hour, and i still have 4 files in the directory. using a dos prompt and "dir /A" the listing is:

05/12/2005 23:40 <DIR> .
05/12/2005 23:40 <DIR> ..
05/12/2005 23:39 19,456 file_creation_test.ncb
05/12/2005 23:36 925 file_creation_test.sln
05/12/2005 23:39 7,680 file_creation_test.suo
05/12/2005 23:39 3,460 file_creation_test.vcproj
               4 File(s) 31,521 bytes
               2 Dir(s) 17,341,202,432 bytes free

it is safe to say i am not seeing any files being generated. i followed the instructions (which were nice and clear) to the letter.

do you have any other plugin's installed? what is in these files? can you reproduce this on a different machine?
