In the past when I renamed a variable using refactoring, I got a box that looked similar to the one I get now. But then I could check or uncheck boxes by lines that I wanted changed or not changed. Now the boxes are there but I canG??t check them. What am I missing.
Using build 1918

To send me the files please use this form:

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up. Sorry, I should have said that before, my mistake.

You mention changing the dark/light scheme in windows. Have you changed your Windows colour scheme?

If you right click on the desktop and select "Personalization", does it show you using a custom scheme or one of the standard ones? My test system shows I am using the Aero theme "Windows 7", with Window Color = Sky.

To change the dark/light theme I loaded Visual Studio 2012, went into the IDE options dialog -> Environment -> General -> Color theme = Dark

I am wondering if VA is picking up a "bad" colour from somewhere for the checkboxes, but I am not sure how or why that would be happening.

I don't have anything changing the appearance of windows other than the dark/light scheme which I believe is part of windows.
I had to change the type of the settings file to jpg before I could attach it.
Well, even that didn't work. It is too big by more than double.
How can I send them to you directly?
Thanks for your attention and I'm sorry I didn't read the 2nd previous message more carefully to see that you had already told me how to export the settings.

To export your IDE settings, use the IDE tools menu:

IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings...

this opens a dialog, and then use the "Export selected environment settings" radio button on the first page, and export your environment settings.

To export your VA settings, go into the VA Options dialog, Performance node, and use the "Export settings" button.

Hopefully this is clear and easy to follow.

Are you using any programs to change how Windows looks? For example WindowBlinds from Stardock?

It is close, but I only see the bottom pixel of the white check boxes
Can you tell me how to export the settings so I don't spend a lot of time spinning my wheels looking for it when you probably know off the top of your head.

This is what I am seeing in the rename dialog, using VS2012, Windows 7 64bit, and VA 1918, so basically the same configuration as you:

is this even close to what you are seeing?

Can you please export your VA and IDE settings and send them to me:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings

I can then import them here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Can you check the color theme and if it is set to dark then make the check marks a light color?
Old as dirt Posted - Dec 10 2012 : 4:00:02 PM
I was able to get keyboard focus and highlight lines and press the spacebar and it apparantly did uncheck the box, but there was VERY LITTLE indication of it. After I saw that it did something, I was able to click on it and get the same result.
The indication that the box is checked is only one pixel (it looks like) on the bottom edge of the box.
So it is working, but the coloring makes the check nearly invisible.
Under Tools/Options/Environment/General I have Color theam: set to Dark

This is odd, you are still supposed to be able to tick and untick these check boxes.

Which IDE and OS are you using?
Are you able to place keyboard focus into the list of items to rename? You should be able to do this either by clicking into the list or using the Tab key. If you can place keyboard focus here, does using the Up and Down arrow keys move focus up and down the list?

If you can place focus into the list, does pressing Space toggle the check box on the current line? It should.
