Yesterday I really wanted help with VA X, but was unable to access the web site for a couple of hours. Not sure why, ping was good, but the server wasn't serving up the good stuff.

Anyway, while it is great that the online version is current, I'd love to see and offline .chm or .pdf or something so I can get to it if I need to offline.

Just a thought.

Using IE 6, Favorites menu -> Add to Favorites -> Make available offline checkbox

I remember seeing the option to delete offline content in IE from last time I was poking around in its options dialog

From distant memory if you set the flag you can still load these Favorite items when working offline, but I am not sure how stable the storage is.

That feature appears to have bit the dust. I too used it once upon a time, but seems it died since no one was using it much.

Might be available as an 'add-on' (plugin), but I'm too busy coding right now to worry much about it. Thanks.

If you can work out where IE hides the files how about "make available offline"? It is quite a long time since I tried using this feature, but I do recall using it.

Thanks, but I'm an MS guy. Just the budget is a bit tight till we get this project done and on the market. Looks like a great product.

You should be able to find a firefox extension to download the pages. I have used Offline Explorer for other websites for years, so I have never really looked into the extensions.

Well, having documentation that is so current it must be on the web is a good problem to have, and so I really can't complain. Actually, as small as it is, if I can find some freeware to update it offline, I'll do that for now.

I have grown to love VA X, and can't think of a single thing I'd like to change. Never had software like that before!

I'll check out the FAQ, thanks.

You may want to pick up a copy of our new FAQ while you are at it. This is currently being added to fairly frequently, which is always the problem with documentation, you need to keep it up to date

Thanks, that's a great idea. I did manually grab it last night as I couldn't remember how to get it to save offline like I had in the past. I'll check that out.

If I put it in a .chm, I'll let ya know.

Thanks for your reply.

We are working towards this, but are not there yet.

For now the best solution is to use a program to save out the online documentation locally. Personally I use Offline Explorer for these sort of jobs.
