LIKE SOME white-bracket overlay appeared!

no special setting neight vs nor va is changed, I just not sure what cause that' Just use for a while, occurs very most!

But I restart the vs, it's works again.

Apologies, I got that wrong. That's what I get for relying on my memory of the details and not re-reading all of the details before commenting.

This only happens in newer versions of Unity, not in older versions. I have run into the problem myself, while learning Unity, but was never able to trigger it on demand, which made it very hard to make sense of. Thankfully you were able to explain how to trigger this on demand.

I am asking about getting this looked at sooner.

Current our Major Unity Version is 2019.4.40

So in a nutshell, which version is your highly-recommendation (I mean tested & ensure the same bug not happens there)?

btw, maybe we prefer U2021.3, BUT THE BUG IS most weighted factor anyway, So any hint?

Is moving to a newer version of Unity an option for you?

The problem from our point of view is that this only happens with older versions of Unity, so this is quite a specific problem.

This is still in our list of bugs to fix, but its one of many current bug reports and feature requests. Somehow we have to balance these different requests and bugs, and the number of people it will effect is one obvious factor we consider.

I just wonder can make this BUG more-priority or Do a hotfix for that?
AS it's really troublesome & I HAVE TO RESTART vs so many times a day to get around it.

Or some trick to make a detour.

Finally able to reproduce easily and on demand. The version of Unity matters. Later versions of Unity tell VS2022 to reload the solution without prompting, which seems to be a factor.

I have actually been seeing this problem myself, but only at random, never with any form of pattern. So it is very good to be able to trigger the bug on demand, will make this a lot easier to work on, I hope:

SEE preceding post: I have disabled all others 4 extensions DISABLED.
maybe the difference come from VERSIONs:

1. vs
CUR: DevEnv.exe version 17.6.33815.320 Community
NOW: I update THE VS to latest version: 17.8.3
2. unity
I actually Use UNITY 2019.4.40f1 (free personal license)

I will check it again after vs updated.

I have the project and instructions, thank you for these. I have no idea why the spam filter seems to be singling you out though. At least this method works.

I have carefully followed the instructions, and have done both moves 4 times in a row now, so VS2022 has reloaded the updated solution 8 times, and no sign the problem here.

It is possible the exact versions of things matter, or do you have any other extensions installed and active that might be a factor?

I am using VS2022 version 17.8.0, VA 2508.0, running under Windows 10. For Unity, I installed version 2019.4.0f1 LTS, which told me it was the wrong version of Unity, even though it is the major version number you listed in the instructions.

I have tried to switch other 2 emails to send it but fail always (inc reply directly). Maybe google email server invalidate & block the attach-file.

SO I have to change another way.

hi, I have tidy a unity-project for reproducing the bug. And I have tested to ensure it works;

sent to "[email protected]" by [email protected] with Titie: "ID_20587_editor_method_list_TestUnityProj"

it takes a attach file in zip: see the readme.docx first hope it helps

btw: I have tried for some pure Cpp or C# project to the same purpose but failed. SO for now, the unity project may be appropriated most. so use it.

What sort of C# module are you deleting? Can you give me a simple example I can try and add to a Unity project, and then delete, to see if I can reproduce this?

I know a TINY bit about Unity, so am not sure how best to set up a test for this.

btw, if restart the vs on just deleted module, the va method list works well EVEN with many type-missing errors.
SO maybe that why everything goes ok on restart vs like before.

Finally, I found the method can stable reproduce the BUG:

Unity 2019.4.40f1 (cs-project)

for now, I disabled all extensions except va. (vs already restarted)


I delete a cs module in bin-dll from unity project.



NOW, both vs & unity will alert error (as expected), NOTE the va method list white-overlay will occur!



Then do the reverse step: restore the delete module BUT the va method list LEFT WRONG!
NO RECOVER any more!

I have remember seeing the format on save extension before, so if it is the one I have seen before, I would not expect it to be causing problems, but I could be wrong about that.

Still good to know that this looks to be an interaction problem, this makes a lot more sense.

after I disabled 2 entensions, the bug not occur for whole-day. lol

see pic below all 5 entensions installed in all (I have disabled 3rd and 5th one, AS the 5th is with-product SO 3rd is most suspicious!)

Yes, if you go into the dialog:

IDE Extensions menu -> Manage Extensions

you can disable the other extensions, which will require an IDE restart to take effect. Can you please try this, and see if it has any effect. This is not a common problem, so it suggests an interaction with something else on your system.

for now I have 2 leads to follow:
1. when that problem appears try disable all other extensions to see if can have any effect
2. start another instance of vs with all other extensions disabled at beginning. to see if the problem occur still

Do you have any programs installed that might effect how windows are drawn and updated? For example, WindowBlinds by Stardock.

Are you working on a single monitor or multiple monitors?

Approximately how long after loading Visual Studio before you start seeing this problem?

If you change the current file, does this have any effect on the problem?
