VAX running on VS2005.
I just migrated from XP to 7.
Now the cursor is flickering.

How can I get rid of this?
Thanks.

Do you mean the caret, the text insert point in the file, or the actual mouse cursor its self?

The caret is supposed to flash on and off, and I believe you can configure the flash rate somewhere in Windows Control Panel, probably under keyboard.

Are you working locally, or over some form of remote desktop connection? Is this the only visual element that is flickering?

It is the caret.

It is not the blinking (which is about one on-off per second),
it is a more frequent on/off. Look here:
http://screencast.com/t/85R7EVnIo
It looks slower in the video. In reality it is more "nervous".

I'm working locally. I did not have this effect before setting up the machine for windows 7.

Can you please go into Windows Control Panel and search for "keyboard", using the search field in the top right hand corner. Under the heading Keyboard, the second item should be "Change cursor blink rate". Can you please go into these settings, and see if changing the Cursor blink rate slider has any effect.

Are you only seeing this problem in Visual Studio, or in other programs as well?

I would not expect VA to be causing this, but clearly something is causing this.

Changing system setting does not affect the flicker (the flicker is just at higher frequence than the blinking).

Other programs do not have problems.

Disabeling VA removes the problem.

Further observation: cpp/h-files are ok, txt-files are flickering.

Strange, VA should largely ignore txt files, since they are not code files.

Can you please try adding ".txt;" to:

VA Options -> File Handling -> Extensions to ignore

and restarting your IDE. Does this make any difference?

I tried it, but no success.

Only disabling helped.

Correction: Apparently the "ignore"-setting takes effect only after a restart of the IDE.
In other words: After restarting the IDE the flickering vanished.
