Hello all,
Since I'm working on a TFT-display, I use the ClearType (XP) powertoy from MS. It is designed for LCD-monitors, and will change your default system font, so the characters are displayed more smooth. Does anyone else uses this?
I think it's an improvement, although you might have to get used to it.
The only two withdraws I encountered are - displaying characters in DirectX could produce per character, two characters that are slightly dispositioned
- while programming, it's more hard to distinct the bold characters of Visual Assist from the normal characters
I also found that these effects seem less when you set the "ClearType Contrast Setting" (on the tab "Advanced" of "ClearType Tuning") to maximum 1.2 (for digital TFT displays).
Does anyone have other recommendations? Does anyone of you use other "powertoys" (or "kerneltoys") from MS or other parties?
With kind regards, Patrick Luja |

I use ClearType although I use a 21" CRT-Monitor. I love ClearType!
I usually use the Microsoft ClearType WebInterface to enable/configure ClearType, I didn't know that there's a stand-alone application that can do that... thanks for the link! |

Hello WannebeeDeveloper,
I didn't know there was a WebInterface for that. I took a glanse at the web interface; it was the same as the standalone application in the control panel.
I do love the new font (a new feel) it gives to Windows. Do you also encounter that while programming, you can't distinct the bold characters from the normal characters?
With kind regards, Patrick Luja |

No, using Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, I can distinct bold from normal... no problems here. |
