There is already an option to make local variables bold (local symbols in bold) but I want to change the color instead. I find it too distracting to have too many bold fonts.

I cannot find the option to change the color for C# and I don't want to use another plugin. Is there any way to change it?

Have you tried using the IDE font and colour settings, and changing the colour for "VA Variable"? I am not quite sure how this will work for you, but it is having an effect for me in C# code.
