When I want to scroll through the code by dragging the vertical scroll bar, it always auto scroll back to the place where the highlighted current line lies, and can't be avoided by turning off the highlight current line feature, and this didn't happen when I click on the scroll bar or the arrows on both end, just happen when drag & drop, and it didn't happen when I turn VA off neither. This could be annoying sometimes. How can I turn this feature off? Or is this a bug in VA?

I'm using VS2010 and VA 10.6.1823.0, thanks.

The easiest way to restore to your current VA settings is to export your VA settings before you begin:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings

you can then close the IDE and run / import this .reg file at the end, to get back to your current VA settings.

Unfortunately I don't know which VA settings might be having an effect here. I have never been able to reproduce this here.

At a guess:

Fonts and Colors -> Enable Enhanced Syntax Coloring

Underlines -> Underline spelling errors in comments and strings using
Underlines -> Underline mistyped symbols using

Anything and everything in "Display"

since these are the obvious options that effect how the editor window is drawn, which is what you are scrolling.

If you had a few minutes, turning off every single VA option would be an interesting test.

I am taken to th eorignal current line and column after the scroll.

I am disable VA using:VAssistX -> Enable/Disable Visual Assist X

Can you tell what option in VA dialog to turn down? and how to restore the defult option?
feline Posted - Nov 29 2014 : 3:04:01 PM
Can you please look at the IDE status bar, specifically the line and column the caret is currently at, and note these numbers. If you now reproduce this problem, does the caret position change, or are you taken back to the original current line and column after the scroll?

An unexpected keyboard movement command would explain what you are seeing, but I have no idea where that would be coming from, but if it was happening, I would expect it to change the caret position.

How are you disabling VA when this stops happening? Simply using the IDE menu:

VAssistX -> Enable/Disable Visual Assist X

or are you going into the Extension manager dialog and disabling VA and restarting the IDE?

Do you have the time to go into the VA options dialog and turn off everything, and see if you still get this problem? It is possible it is somehow tied to a specific VA option, or set of options, but not highlight the current line, since you have already said that turning off this option makes no difference.

It's happen in .c .cpp .h files. I don't use other. the file size are small typical file have 300 lines. I don't use network drive.
It's enough to open IDE and drag the movable bar in the vertical scroll bar with the left mouse button.
Usually i have several open IDE. But it is occurred when only one IDE is open.

Four/five months ago, I reforamt the E6510 and then install VS10, VS2005. WINDOW SDK v7.0A and Visual Assist.
From this moment this bug appear.
I have the E6540 one month. I install the some tool from the some install package.

If visual-assists disable the bug is not exist.

I have the settings, thank you for these. I have tried Windows 7 64bit, VS2010 with VA 2048 and VA 2052, with both sets of settings, so 4 combinations in all, and I am not seeing any sign of this problem. Since you are seeing this on two different systems there must be something I am missing.

So lets go back to basics. How are you loading the IDE?

Do you see this in all file types and sizes? Is it possible it only happens in certain file extensions, certain sizes of file, or files opened from a network drive?

How, exactly, are you reproducing this? Is it enough to simply open the IDE, load a solution, and then drag the movable bar in the vertical scroll bar with the left mouse button, without doing anything else? Do you have to open a file first? Edit the file?

I use the same installation package of VS2010 and VS2012.
How can I send you the export setting files?
feline Posted - Nov 26 2014 : 4:00:42 PM
That was unexpected, but since you are seeing this on another machine, and this extension is not installed on that machine, then we can probably safely discount MySql.

Can you think of anything the two machines have in common that might be unusual? Since we have not been able to reproduce this, it suggests there is some extra factor required to trigger the bug, something that these two machines have in common, but that I don't have here.

Can you please export your VA and IDE settings from both machines and send them to me:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings

I can then import one set at a time here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

The Extension manger dialog dose not allow to disable the MySql extension.
There is message in the bottom of the dialog that said "You need to use Windows Add/Remove Programs
to remove this extension"
I have the bug in anther computer with out this extension

feline Posted - Nov 24 2014 : 2:49:30 PM
As a test can you please go into VS2010 extension manager and disable MySql for Visual Studio. This will require an IDE restart to take effect. Do you still see this problem with MySql disabled like this?

Hopefully a quick and simple test to see if this makes any difference. Its possible there is some form of interaction at work here, which would explain why this is a rare bug report.
yoram Posted - Nov 22 2014 : 01:33:45 AM
in Add-in Manager empty

in Extension Manager: MySql for Visual Studio and Visual Assist

I dont use clever mouse

I Find workaround(but is not natural) if the ALT is push it work fine.
feline Posted - Nov 21 2014 : 4:49:02 PM
Lets look at VS2010 first, simply because it does not ship with several default extensions, making it easier to see what might have changed from the default.

Can you please look in:

IDE Tools menu -> Add-in Manager...

and:

IDE Tools menu -> Extension Manager...

and see what is listed in these two dialogs? Do you have anything other than Visual Assist in the Extension Manager dialog?

Are you using a clever mouse, something that has extra software? Microsoft and Logitech are both obvious examples of mice that have extra controller software.

I am looking for any clues as to where to start looking.

Hi agian,
I have a new computer dell E6540 window 7

Remote viewing may have to be considered, but simply seeing the effect won't tell us why it is happening. This is only the second report I can find of this effect, so the trigger may be a 3rd party program that most of our users don't use.

yoram, do you have anything installed that might effect how programs are drawn, or that effects how your keyboard and mouse works? An obvious example of changing how programs are drawn is Window Blinds by Stardock, or a tool to help you work with multiple monitors? Anything that you installed when you reinstalled your OS, but that you did not use before?

Are you seeing this problem in VS2012 as well as VS2010, or are you not using VS2012 yet?
foxmuldr Posted - Aug 18 2014 : 11:24:53 AM
May I suggest that yoram and accord/feline setup Team Viewer so the issue can be seen live with a demonstration by yoram, and that accord/feline can take over yoram's desktop and examine the system settings remotely as the issue is happening?
yoram Posted - Aug 18 2014 : 04:24:07 AM
Visual Assist is the only installed extension.

Two month ago I format and reinstall OS and visual studio. And from that moment this issue appeared.
Lately I start work with vs12 and I need to upgrade visual assist. But before I need to be sure that this issue will be solved.
feline Posted - Aug 16 2014 : 7:20:05 PM
No news yet unfortunately. Can you please look in:

IDE tools menu -> Extension Manager...

are there any other extensions installed in addition to Visual Assist? Something must be triggering this, and an interaction with another extension would make sense.
yoram Posted - Aug 16 2014 : 02:04:06 AM
Any new about this issue?
accord Posted - Jul 28 2014 : 5:29:45 PM
We got the logs, thank you, and will look into the problem.
yoram Posted - Jul 27 2014 : 11:53:53 PM
When I Disable Visual Assist, I can not reproduce the problem.

yoram Posted - Jul 27 2014 : 06:48:43 AM
I download and Install VA 2043
It dose not make any difference

feline Posted - Jul 25 2014 : 7:23:50 PM
We were never able to work out what caused this last time. Do you have any other extensions installed? Is there anything odd about your system?

Can you please try downloading and installing VA 2043

http://www.wholetomato.com/downloads/default.asp

this should give you a 3 day trial, does this make any difference?
yoram Posted - Jul 25 2014 : 03:24:51 AM
I have the same problem.
How can it be solved?

I use VS2010 and VA Version 10.6.1854.0 built 2011.07.18

The conversation is being continued by email.
xinyu Posted - Mar 13 2011 : 8:35:53 PM
I can't recall what I have changed, maybe nothing has changed... and I don't think it contains any important new settings
accord Posted - Mar 11 2011 : 5:59:37 PM
We got the log files, thank you. We will look into them.
You sent newer VA settings (the reg file). Does it contain any important new setting or was just attached by accident?
xinyu Posted - Mar 10 2011 : 9:08:10 PM
More discoveries, if I dragging the box with shift pressed, then it will not scroll back to the highlighted line, or, if there is already a selection of the code before dragging, no matter how many characters are selected, then it will not scroll back...

And I've tested with my vs2005, it doesn't have this problem at all, only my vs2010 does.
xinyu Posted - Mar 10 2011 : 8:55:13 PM
Pity that 1842 doesn't solve my problem... log files have been sent.

Accidentally I have a new discovery about this problem, it is, after dragging the scroll box to some place, without releasing the mouse, press the right button of the mouse, the scroll bar menu will popup, at this point, releasing the mouse will not produce any scrolling back, the code view will stay at where I've dragged to, so I'm guessing the problem is related to the WM_LBUTTONUP message of the scroll bar? Hope this will be helpful.
accord Posted - Mar 10 2011 : 5:32:02 PM
Can you please upgrade your Visual Assist to the latest version (1842) on the off chance it helps?

http://www.wholetomato.com/downloads/default.asp

If it doesn't, can you please turn on logging and reproduce the problem? You can learn more about logging, and how to send the log files, after the jump:

http://docs.wholetomato.com?W305

This might give us a clue why is it happening.
