Is there any way that you could use the font color of the reference instead of using a custom color?
for instance, I'm using C++ with Fuchsia for preprocessor macros. And I'm also using the refactoring option "automatically highlight references to symbols under cursor".
So what happens is as I place my cursor on an enum value it properly highlights surrounding references. But that changes the color of the reference highlighted to what's defined in the Fonts and colors option for Find References instead of keeping the color set for macros.
What I would prefer is that there was an option to keep the color of the highlighted text. So if highlighting a preprocessor macro, the text should stay fuchsia but receive the bold or background color (options specified in the fonts and colors). Conversely, highlighting a member variable would stay white (or its default color) but also receive the bold and background color from the find references option.
When the current functionality changes the color of the text, you lose the instant visual type recognition that you've trained with your font colors.

I haven't figured out what is happening or why this fixes it, but in the VS Options dialog, change the Foreground color for the 2 VA Find References display items to black. Then VA coloring will kick in. |

I have your settings, thank you for these. I am seeing the same problem here, but so far I cannot find any obvious trigger or pattern to this. Some colour schemes with a dark background show this effect, and some don't. I have put a bug report in for this:

This is working correctly for me in VS2008, VA 1862, with a dark IDE background. Can you please export your VA and IDE settings and send them to me:
VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings
I can then import them here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I'm using VS2008, SP1. Specifically, version 9.0.30729.1
And I have the latest VAX, version 10.6.1862.0
I made a capture of what it looks like for me with these settings.
I have 'default' set for both of the text colors. If I set the options to 'Automatic;, when I navigate away from the dialog (or even that item in the list view) it restores the option to 'default'.

What Visual Studio and Visual Assist version are you using? This should work if you are using a recent VA version with Visual Studio 2003-2010.
The following screenshot was made using VS2003:
Can you please check what is set for the foreground color of the references?
Tools -> Options... -> Environment -> Font and colors -> Display items -> VA X Find Reference
and
VA X Find Reference (modified)
It should be "Automatic" for both settings. |
